Australian farmers will have even more choice for farm utes from 2025 as South Korean car manufacturer Kia launches their new 2.2L turbo diesel dual-cab version called the ‘Tasman’.
The Tasman looks set to challenge the dominant Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux market leaders which over the past decade have dominated industry sales. In 2023, the locally designed Ford Ranger was the best selling vehicle – not just the best selling ute – with 63,356 units sold, breaking the Hilux’s seven-year streak as the best selling model which sold 61,111.
Kia has been teasing the Australian ute market for months with creative ads featuring cricket legends Steve Waugh and David Boon, retired tennis star Ash Barty, AFL champion Lance “Buddy” Franklin, Matilda’s star Mackenzie Arnold, and even retired rugby league great Allan Langer all wondering what name could Kia could come up with to take on one of most competitive category in Australian car sales.

Australian ute culture has come along way since the days of the Holden WB and Ford Falcon ute. But the category still holds the imagination of enthusiasts throughout the country, with the Deni Ute Muster a feature on the ute calendar.
